Iran named as Afghanistan’s biggest trade partner

TEHRAN, Apr. 10 (MNA) – Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Spokesman said Iran has turned into the biggest trading partner of Afghanistan.

“With 1.8 billion dollars of trade exchange level between the two countries, Iran is now Afghanistan’s biggest trade partner,” Seyamuddin Pesarlai told IRNA correspondent in Kabul, on Monday.

He underlined that 80% of the transactions relates to imports from Iran and the rest is related to the export to the country.

He also pointed to the 50 percent decrease in Afghanistan-Pakistan trade ties, adding that the two countries previously had more than 2 billion dollars trade exchange, but now it has dropped to 1 billion.

The officials of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce say that political interventions on the part of Pakistan is regarded as the main factor in decreasing the trade with Afghanistan.
